Kids likely prefer what is in the Easter basket over what is on the dinner table.

Adults may or not be more interested in the traditional holiday meal.

Either way, Instacart has analyzed its data from 2022 to determine what are the most popular “eats and treats for Easter and Passover.”

Passover 2023 is April 5 while Easter is Sunday, April 9.

PennLive recently published information from Candystore.com that said the most popular Easter candy in Pennsylvania is the Cadbury Creme Egg.

But, according to what Instacart shoppers nationwide are buying, the Cadbury Creme Egg comes in fifth place.

The most sold Easter candy sold on Instacart is - drum roll please - Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs.

The rest of the Top 10 are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Kinder Chocolate Candy Egg, Starburst jelly beans, Lindt hollow milk chocolate bunny, Hershey’s milk chocolate candy eggs, Hershey’s Kisses, Peeps, M&M’s and Brach’s Jelly Bird eggs.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs are king in the entire western half of the United States, including Alaska, and in a dozen other states. In Pa., we are buying the same thing in a different form - Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

When it comes to the holiday meal, 74% of Americans say they will serve ham. Instacart said its orders for ham spike in the week leading up to the holiday (a whopping 254% last year).

Also popular that week are rack of lamb, dinner rolls, brisket, canned green beans, asparagus, russet potatoes and sweet potatoes.

For Passover, the most ordered holiday food is matzah. The unleavened flat bread enjoys a hefty spike in purchases in the week leading up to Passover - “the most significant surge” throughout the year.

Instacart said it used its own purchasing data as well as a Harris Poll survey to determine the results.
